Professor Dong, Jinming was born in 1962 in Nanjing P. R. China.Fond
of music since childhood, he started to practise Beijing Opera Fiddles
(Erhu, Jinghu: traditional Chinese instruments). At the age of ten he
was selected into the famous "Nanjing Little Flower Art Ensemble" where
he received formal training in erhu. In August 1978 at the invitation
of the Romanian Government he visited Romania with the ensemble on
behalf of Chinese children and adolescents. After his graduation from
secondary school in 1980 he worked as an erhu teacher in the "Nanjing
Little Flower Art Ensemble" and at the "Nanjing Elementary Arts
School". That same year he was invited to perform in Nagoya, Osaka and
other Japanese Cities. In 1983 he enrolled at the music department of
the "Nanjing Art Institute" focussing on erhu as well as Chinese art
and folk music, following which he won several prizes in the "First
Erhu Competion of Jiangsu Province". Upon graduation in 1987 he
has worked in the "Jiangsu Province Culture and Art Center" as a music
director and erhu performance director. In 1993 he was admitted into
the "Chinese Musicians Association of Jiangsu Province" and
was honored as "promising young generation erhu performer". In
1994 he became a member of the "Chinese Society and Music Study
Committee". In 1995 he was appointed as a member of the "Evaluation
Committee of Chinese Erhu Performing Arts". Since 1993 he has taught
erhu at Nanjing University to over 450 overseas students from more than
15 countries. Since 1995 Professor Dong Jinming has given many
concerts in Asia, Europe and America. |
